The Federal Government has completed the validation process for Nigeria’s revised National Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) Policy, paving the way for ministerial approval and nationwide implementation. The review comes five years after the expiration of the previous framework and reflects emerging realities in maternal health, reproductive commodities, adolescent health, and service delivery.
Speaking during the national stakeholders’ validation meeting in Abuja, Director of the Reproductive Health Division at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Samuel Oyeniyi, said the updated policy would strengthen coordination mechanisms, improve access to reproductive healthcare services, and address gaps in commodity security, capacity building, and data management.
The revised framework also integrates key national initiatives, including the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII), and is expected to guide Nigeria’s reproductive health programming in the coming years, with stronger attention to women, adolescents, and vulnerable populations.
